New 4x4s for 2027: what’s new, and what’s still on the way
A handful of off-road trucks and SUVs are new or changed for 2027. Here is what each one is, when it arrives, and a review from a professional tester for each, so you can do your homework before you drive one on the beach.
The Silverado is fully redesigned for 2027, with new 5.7- and 6.6-liter V8s alongside a turbocharged four-cylinder and a diesel six, and a new interior built around much larger screens. The Trail Boss has a 2-inch factory lift and 34-inch tires.

Jeep Recon (electric)
Jeep’s first Trail Rated electric SUV, with the open-air feel of a Wrangler and no gas engine at all. After delays, the first Recon Moab models started reaching dealers in the fall of 2026, so early supply is thin.

Toyota Tundra Trailhunter
The 2027 Tundra gets a new look, a standard 14-inch screen and a new off-road version, the Trailhunter, built for long trips off the pavement. It sits next to the TRD Pro rather than replacing it.

Ford F-150 Tremor
For 2027 a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 becomes the F-150’s standard engine, the 5.0-liter V8 is easier to get, and Ford adds lower-priced versions of the Tremor and Raptor. A cheaper Tremor is the news for anyone shopping an off-road half-ton.

Ram 1500
Ram brings back the TRX and adds the Rumble Bee, both with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 rated at 777 horsepower. They are performance trucks; for the beach, our Ram is the 1500 Rebel.

Ram midsize pickup
Stellantis has confirmed a midsize Ram is coming in 2027, and many reports call it the Ram Dakota. The U.S. name, the plant and any off-road version have not been made official.

Scout Traveler and Terra
Scout Motors is bringing back the Scout name with the Traveler SUV and the Terra pickup, built in South Carolina and sold direct rather than through dealers. Scout’s chief executive expects first deliveries in 2028; one report said the Terra could slip to 2030, which Scout disputes.
