Military discounts on a new 4x4: every factory offer, and a better price under it
Jeep, Ram, Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota each pay a military rebate on new vehicles. Here is what each one pays, who qualifies and how to claim it, and how it adds to the Carolina Auto Program price.
The factory offers
What each maker pays for service
These are paid by the manufacturer, not the dealer. Each one needs proof of service, usually an authorization number you get online before you buy. Terms change often, so we check them again when your certificate is written.

How it adds up
Your rebate goes on top of the program price
The program price is our dealer’s discount, set before you book. A military rebate is the manufacturer’s money. They are two different lines, and you can have both.
- Before your drive
- Get your authorization number from the maker’s military page and send it with your date request.
- On your certificate
- The rebate is listed on the factory cash line, under the dealer’s discount, so you see exactly what each one is worth.
- Your credit union
- Keep your Navy Federal, PenFed or other loan. How the military credit unions’ car buying services compare.
- Who drives
- Every driver is 25 or older, licensed and insured. Bring your spouse; you can both drive.
Straight answers
What service does not change
A few things work the same for everyone, and it is better to know before you sign.
- North Carolina tax
- NCDMV says military members, residents or not, are not exempt from the highway use tax when they register a vehicle in North Carolina.
- Virginia tax
- Virginia DMV says everyone pays the motor vehicle sales and use tax on a purchase. The exception is a vehicle you have owned more than 12 months, or already paid tax on, when you first register it in Virginia.
- TrueCar’s military package
- The Navy Federal and PenFed services, both run by TrueCar, add a Military Appreciation Package, including deductible and repair reimbursement, when you buy from a TrueCar Certified Dealer and report it within 45 days. That is separate from the factory rebate.
